Stephen L. Kunkel, Managing Director


Scott KunkelStephen Kunkel joined AEG Partners in 2005 to focus on working with stressed companies, bringing his extensive operational experience in leadership positions at Fortune 500 companies. In his role at AEG, Mr. Kunkel has been involved in both Chapter 11 and out-of-court restructurings, where he has lead the development of business plans and restructuring strategies, derived detailed liquidity and liquidation analysis, implemented long-term strategies to improve operations, and lead complex restructuring negotiations.

Mr. Kunkel has experience working in the automotive, construction, distribution, engineering, commercial services, electronics, telecommunications, environmental and industrial product industries. Recent engagements at AEG include Restructuring Officer and head of operations at a telecom service provider, managing the wind-down of two international automotive suppliers, strategic advisor to a large distribution company, and financial advisor to a national telecommunications provider.

Prior to joining AEG, Mr. Kunkel led the turnaround of a construction design and engineering company as Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he headed both the industrial and European divisions of Safety-Kleen Corporation, a Fortune 500 industrial services company, managing a $500 million restructuring effort, advancing international expansion, and leading the strategic sale of international operations. In addition, he ran various divisions of Stepan Chemical. Mr. Kunkel has the experience of more than thirty mergers and sales. Mr. Kunkel is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Commercial Finance Association, and he holds degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy.
