Chuck has extensive experience as a corporate executive, restructuring advisor and a practicing attorney representing clients in a variety of industries nationwide. He has particular focus and depth in print media. His experience includes advising clients on employee and labor implications of corporate sales, mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, plant closures and relocations. He has assisted numerous clients in improving financial performance and recovering trapped value through organizational restructuring and expense reductions, with recent engagements in newspaper publishing and print/sorting equipment.

Professional Experience

With his background in private practice and as a corporate executive, Chuck is regularly sought out for his strategic, legal and practical advice to clients on managerial, operational and legal issues.

Chuck has extensive depth and expertise working with newspaper chains and independent, major metropolitan, and community newspapers. He served as president and publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and executive vice president of the Sun Times Co., where he oversaw the operations of the Sun-Times and the holding company’s 57 community newspapers.

He was a partner at Baker & Hostetler and Foley & Lardner, and then Of Counsel to Bell Boyd & Lloyd LLP. His practice included labor negotiations, arbitrations, NLRB proceedings, federal and state discrimination claims, wage and hour matters, strike contingency planning, strike management and counseling on all employee related matters. Additionally, working as a chief negotiator, Chuck has secured substantial reductions in force and other savings through substantial changes in collective bargaining agreements which have helped distressed companies survive.

  • Chuck serves and has served on the board of directors for companies, including The Sun-Times Company, NCP Solutions, and Collins Brothers.

Civic Involvement

  • Former chairman and current member of the board of governors for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
